How to use the Clicker
First you need to teach your pet that a click means that a reward is to follow.
Start in a quiet area with no distractions and have a pocket full of treats.
Press the clicker once and immediately give him/her a treat. Repeat this sequence.
Repeat until he/she gets the idea and the treat always follows the click. Ensure testing this method by waiting for your pet to look away and once he does click. He should immediately look back at you in anticipation of his reward. If he doesn’t then a few more repetitions are required.
The next stage is to condition him to the Clicker. The primary is to communicate the commands you are likely to need when your dog is a distance from you. It is extremely important to be consistent, so decide on your signals and stick to them.
This is achieved by repeating a sequence of clicks. For example two clicks to sit etc.
